Eligibility & Enrollment

You bring your whole self to work everyday, providing inspiration to millions. So, we want to make sure you always feel taken care of, both physically and mentally.

Who is eligible for benefits?

Employees—You’re eligible to enroll in Pinterest benefits if you’re a U.S. full-time or part-time employee, or intern working 24 hours or more per week. You’re not eligible if you’re classified as a contingent worker or agency contractor.

Family members—If you’re eligible for benefits, you can enroll the following family members in medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage as well:

  • Your spouse or domestic partner (a qualifying domestic partner must be in a committed relationship with you and be at least 18 years of age. See more information below).
  • Your children, and/or your spouse/domestic partner’s children, under age 26.
  • Your children, or your spouse/domestic partner’s children older than age 26 and solely dependent on you for support due to a mental or physical disability.

Note: Have your dependents’ Social Security numbers (SSNs) on hand when enrolling them in benefits. U.S. health care reform requires SSNs to be reported to the IRS for each covered individual.

Enrolling a domestic partner in benefits

As noted above, domestic partners are eligible for our health care plans. If you enroll a domestic partner, Pinterest must calculate and report the value of your domestic partner’s health care benefit. You will be taxed on the amount that Pinterest pays for your domestic partner’s benefits. This value is known as imputed income.

Additionally, the amount you contribute toward your domestic partner’s benefits each month will be deducted post tax (the portion you pay for yourself will remain pre-tax). This chart shows the exact amount of imputed income and pre/post tax contributions by plan.

If you are adding a domestic partner to your benefits, please complete the Declaration of Domestic Partnership form and return it to peoplecare@ or upload it directly to Workday.

When can I change my benefits?

You have a few opportunities throughout the year to elect your Pinterest benefits:

  • Open enrollment: This once-a-year period is held each November. Your elections or changes will be effective in the New Year.
  • New hire: You have 31 days from your date of hire to elect benefits or make any changes.
  • Life/Qualifying event: You have 31 days from your “qualifying event” to elect benefits or make any changes. Life events such as birth, death, marriage, declaration of domestic partnership or a partner losing (or gaining) coverage qualify.

How to enroll

To enroll in Benefits, simply login to Workday. These guides walk you through step-by-step instructions for New Hires and Qualifying Life Events.

When does coverage start?

Coverage starts on your date of hire or as of the date of your life event.

Medical Plans

When comparing medical plans, it’s important to consider monthly costs, your total out-of-pocket spend for the year, and whether or not you’d like the flexibility to see doctors within a restricted network, or the ability to see doctors out of network as well.

We partner with Collective Health to make your medical, dental, vision, and health fund benefits easier to understand. Check out the Collective Health website to compare all of your options.
